The Legend

There was — and still is — a woman they called Mari Vanna.

In old St Petersburg they told of a grandmother whose table was never empty and whose door was never locked. Friends brought friends; strangers left as family. Her apartment now stands in Knightsbridge — every plate, doily and photograph exactly where she would have kept them.
